YU pokes fun at Xiaomi, teases a new Lollipop smartphone
Indian company Micromax’s new YU brand is definitely trying to take back some marketshare from Xiaomi, and bring back some of the lost glory for its parent company. YU today teased about an upcoming smartphone running Android 5.0 Lollipop.
The company was not so subtle in its teasers, using Xiaomi’s logo in one of the images. The company goes on to say “KitKat in the age of Lollipop? Give me a break!” That was quite clever, but so far, YU’s own Yureka smartphone doesn’t have Lollipop yet.
Xiaomi is the top smartphone maker in China, going on to become the third largest company in the world. The Chinese maker has launched a range of extremely affordable smartphones with a really elegant Android skin. The hardware that the company uses is also of very good quality, providing a great bang for your buck. With that said, one of the issues with Xiaomi remains the extremely slow nature of the company towards updating its uses to the latest version of Android. Xiaomi is still stuck on KitKat even on MIUI 6, the latest version of its custom skin.
The YU Yureka still is a great device for Rs. 9,999, which makes me even more excited about the company’s next phone.
