Yu’s next smartphone to be named Yuphoria, chosen via crowdsourcing campaign
Yu, the smartphone brand that released the Yureka smartphone powered by CyanogenMod operating system has been working on a successor to Yureka. Yu (subsidiary of Micromax) ran a contest #YUNameIt where consumers will chose the name of this next smartphone (Project Caesar). The contest ran for a week and YU recieved more than 1,00,000 entries. Today, Yu has announced that the successor of Yureka will be named YUPHORIA and this will also be powered by CyanogenMod operating system.
The top 5 names that made it to the voting stage were YUPHORIA, YUKNIGHT, YUNICORN, YUNITY, YOUTH and were put to voting between 4th and 6th of April and YUPHORIA made the cut. Five lucky winners from the entries that suggested the name YUPHORIA will get the new YU device for free and YU also gave out Amazon Gift Cards worth 1 lakh rupees through out the campaign. Yu Yureka, thanks to its super low price and popular CyanogenMod OS has been a run away hit and we will have to wait and see if Yuphoria can match or surpass the popularity of YU Yureka.
