Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 vs Huawei Nexus 6P
The first question that comes to mind when you see a comparison between a budget smartphone that costs 10 grand and a flagship Nexus that costs three times more is “Are you mad?”. But given the sheer number of Redmi Note 3 vs Nexus 6P references done during the Xiaomi’s reveal event in New Delhi, we could not resist. How does the Redmi Note 3 stack up against the mighty Nexus 6P? Do note that this is comparison based on paper specifications of Redmi Note 3 as we are yet to get the review unit. We will have a more detailed comparison once we have the review unit in hand. For those who need pure spec-by-spec comparison, head to this page.
Design and Display
Both phones come with aluminum unibody but the Nexus 6P looks much better. The nexus logo on the back, the black horizontal glass stripe (that hosts camera modules) and the diamond cut edge gives the Nexus 6P a truly premium look. Also, the grey color variant of Nexus 6P looks stunning and the gold color suits 6P better than the Redmi Note 3. The 1080p FullHD IPS display of Redmi Note 3 is no match for 1440 x 2560 QuadHD SuperAMOLED. The display on 6P looks absolutely spectacular. But, Xiaomi’s MIUI interface creates a vibrant UI and makes colors pop. The downside though is that the MIUI 7 on Redmi Note 3 is based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop which is like two years old. The Nexus 6P bring clean Android experience and runs the latest version of Android and will be among the first phones to get Android updates for next year or two.
Camera
Xiaomi’s phone are well known for strong camera performance. The Note 3 carries this trend. The rear camera has a 16mp sensor and takes very good looking photos. The Nexus 6P also does a very good job in this department. But, Redmi Note 3 can only do 1080p video recording while 6P can do 4K video recording. The front facing camera on 6P is 8mp and Redmi Note 3 has 5mp sensor.
Under the Hood
Coming to the power, the SnapDragon 810 on the Nexus 6P is super fast but can get very hot. For Xiaomi Note 3, its vice versa. The 6P comes with 3GB RAM as standard while note 3 comes in 2GB/3GB variants. The Nexus 6P comes in 32GB/64GB storage options and Redmi Note 3 comes in 16GB/32GB options. Redmi Note 3 has a microSD card slot and that is a big advantage for those who want to store more than 32GB.
Ports
The Nexus 6P comes with a USB Type-C port which is not only reversible but is faster too when compared to the microUSB port on Redmi Note 3. And the 6P comes with NFC built in which Note 3 does not have. What Note 3 has is an IR blaster and so you can use your Note 3 as remote to controller various devices. Lack of FM radio is one major drawback of Nexus 6P though.
Battery Life
Coming to battery life, the Redmi Note 3 comes with a 4050mAh battery while Nexus 6P has a 3450mAh battery. Now, most of the components (display, chipset etc) draw much less power than those in Nexus 6P. The end result is that the Redmi Note 3 comes with a much better battery life.
So, if you do not care about the version of Android that runs on your phone or the fancy things like NFC and you want your phone to have Cloud storage and vibrant UI, if you want your phone to have a big battery and you do not believe in spending a lot on phones, Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3 is the best one out there for you. If you love premium experience, if you want to have a powerful phone with a breathtaking display and a powerful camera, if you want pure Android experience and regular updates for next year or two, go with the Huawei Nexus 6P.
