Xiaomi Launches Mi 5S in China With Snapdragon 821
Xiaomi today launched its latest flagship, the Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus at an event held in China. The device comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. The device will be available in China from September 29. It comes in Silver, Grey, Gold and Rose Gold color options. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and comes with MIUI 8 out of the box.
Xiaomi Mi 5S Specs
The Xiaomi Mi 5S features a 5.15 inch inch full HD IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, giving you a pixel density of ~428 PPI. The Mi 5S Plus uses a Snapdragon 821 processor with 2 Kryo cores clocked at 2.1 GHz and 2 Kryo cores clocked at 1.6 GHz. It is assisted by an Adreno 530 GPU.
The device comes with a 12 MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, dual tone dual LED flash and the camera can record 4K videos. The rear camera is assisted by Phase Detection Autofocus and dual tone dual LED flash. The Mi 5S can record 4K videos and ultra slow-mo 720p videos at 120 FPS.
On the front, you get a 4 MP camera with a 2um pixel size and support for up to 1080p recording.
One of the headline features of the Xiaomi Mi 5S is the new Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor. The Mi 5S is one of the very few devices out there to use this new fingerprint sensor, allowing you to unlock the phone through thin sheets of glass, metal or plastic etc. This makes it useful in cold conditions where you may be wearing gloves. Normal fingerprint sensors cannot detect fingerprints through any of the materials mentioned above.
Coming to the memory department, the Xiaomi Mi 5S comes in two variants – the first one with 3 GB LPDDR4 RAM and 64 GB UFS 2.0 storage, and the second one with 4 GB RAM and 128 GB UFS 2.0 storage.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, Dual SIM support, 4G VoLTE and NFC. The phone comes with a 3200 mAh battery and a USB Type C reversible connector. It supports Quick Charge 3.0.
Pricing And Availability
The Xiaomi Mi 5S starts at CNY 2,299 ($430/INR 23,000) for the 4 GB / 64 GB storage version and CNY 2,599 ($390/INR 26,000) for the 6 GB / 128 GB version. The phone goes on sale in China on September 29.
