Xiaomi slapped with a ban in India
Xiaomi has been slapped with a ban in India. The Chinese company has been handed over the ban by the Delhi High Court, making Flipkart a party to the case, too. Xiaomi has launched a handful of products in India in collaboration with Flipkart so far.
Ericsson, the plaintiff, has accused Xiaomi of infringing on its Standards Essential Patents which are to granted on a FRAND basis. Xiaomi was reached out by the plaintiff several times since July 2014, but after the company didn’t respond to any of those communications, Ericsson filed a case.
Ericsson has so far sued Micromax, Gionee and Intex in India for infringing on its patents. Xiaomi is the fourth company to be sued by Ericsson. The company’s India head has said that they haven’t received any notice yet, but that they’re looking into it with the information they have on hand. Since they’ve been contacted by Ericsson in the past, it’d be safe to say they’re reacting only after the court injunction forced them to.
Per the injunction, the company has been banned from selling, advertising, manufacturing or importing devices which infringe on Ericsson’s patents.
