Windows Phone jumps to number 2 in Russia
There is not a lot of good news for Windows Phone generally – things mostly stay the same, but today’s different. Microsoft has some good news on the progress of Windows Phone and it comes from Russia this time.
According to a report on a Russian blog Siliconrus, Microsoft’s smartphone operating system Windows Phone has jumped to the number 2 spot. The report suggests that Windows Phone has seen an increase of a 106% in terms of sales for the first five months of 2015. The 106% increase is compared to the same period of 2014. This is an encouraging sign for Microsoft.
The report says that Windows Phones sold over the period in consideration amounts to a good number of 690,000 units. These devices are predominantly the budget level Lumia 630, 535 and the 530. While that may not be all rosy for any company, for Windows Phone it’s good news. The 690,000 devices sold account for 8% of the market, beating iOS to the second spot. The first spot is firmly held by Android, standing at a staggering 85% of the market.
