Wikipedia embraces HTML5 based video player
This is very good news. Atlast, we get to see quality video content on Wikipedia, thanks to addition of HTML5 video support. This new feature is added by Wikipedia Foundation in collaboration with Kaltura and Google. We are surprised though that it took four years to get this to work (addition of feature started in 2008).
“Wikipedia has more than half a billion unique monthly visitors, so any new feature that is deployed needs to be really sustainable and fool-proof,” said Kaltura president Michal Tsur.
Right now, there aren’t many videos available on Wikipedia and there are hardly any HTML5 videos on the site now. If you want to integrate videos, you need to upload the content to Wikimedia Commons and integarte to the pages.
