Western Digital launches SSHD drives with unbelievable thickness of 5mm
In a world where there is absolute craze about ultra thin form factor notebooks and tablets, Western Digital is going to help the OEMs to further reduce the size of the ultrabooks and tablets. The updated ‘Blue’ lineup and ‘Black’ lineup of Solid State Hybrid Drives from Western Digital are insanely thin, at just 5mm. This is almost half as thin as standard mobile hard drive.
Apart from being thin, the new lineup generate less noise and come with operating shock upto 400G and non-operating shock of 1000G. Available from today, the Blue line up 2.5” 5mm drives will be available at an MSRP of 89$ for 500G capacity.
“With the launch of our new WD Blue™ 5 mm ultra slim hard drives and our WD Black™ SSHD products, currently shipping to OEMs, WD is delivering to our customers a variety of solutions that maximize storage capacity and volumetric efficiency, as well as performance and system responsiveness, for consumers,” said Matt Rutledge, vice president of WD’s client computing business unit. “Our engineering team took a clean-sheet approach with 5 mm to deliver an ultra-thin hard drive that enables a world of possibilities and applications for mobile computing and beyond.”
