USA : Apple takes the smartphone crown, Google takess smartphone OS crown
During the month of May 2014, out of 169 million smartphone users in USA, 41.9% have embraced Apple’s iPhone, up by 0.6%. Samsung came a distant second with 27.8% (up by 0.8%) of market share while LG took third place with 6.5% marketshare. Motorola, surprisingly did better than HTC and Sony, took 6.3% of market share. If the trend continues, Motorola may overtake LG and after a long time, take the no.3 spot.
Android kept the lead in operating system market share with 52.1% market share while Apple came in second with 41.9% share. Microsoft did cement its place at third ecosystem with 3.4% market while ever declining Blackberry ended up with 2.3% market share.
Coming to applications, Facebook application was used by 76.4% of users who own a smartphone and Google Play Store took second spot with 51.8% (which shows that there are truck load of users out there who wouldn’t access the Google Play Store but use Facebook application. Facebook’s primary competitor Twitter is not even in top 15 as the official Twitter app is among the least preferred Twitter clients. Google+ is at 14th place with 22.5% app audience.
