Sony begins rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to Xperia Z3 and Z3 compact
Japanese smartphone maker Sony has begun the rollout of the much awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update to Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 compact. The troubled once-giant company is pushing out the update to these two devices as a start, with other Xperias soon to follow suit.
Both the Sony Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 compact were launched in September last year, with some of the best specs at the time on the market. While they both came with the latest version of Android at launch, Android 5.0 Lollipop was launched in November. Sony took nearly 4 months to finish preparing the Lollipop update even with its very light custom UI.
The Android 5.0 Lollipop update changelog is:
- Fresh, streamlined looks – based on Google’s material design, but retaining our minimalistic approach to interface and application design
- New look notifications and lock screen – with fully customizable settings, so you only get the information you really need
- Multi user profiles and guest mode – making it easy for family and friends to use your device, or the creation of dual environments for work and play…
- Android for Work – not only are business-ready Xperia smartphones and tablets unique devices for work – with waterproof form factors, great battery life and productivity features – they will now also be part of the Android for Work ecosystem
- Better storage control and customisation – with the option to easily move applications from internal memory to SD card – giving you more control over your content, particularly useful for devices with slightly less space
The Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z3 compact devices in the Nordic and the Baltic countries, with other markets to follow suit soon. It is assumed that carrier branded devices will take a bit longer to receive the update, but this is something not to blamed upon Sony.
