Sony releases Xperia Z AOSP to their GitHub page
We are not sure what happened last year but Sony went from being the worst in updating their Android lineup to one of the best in upgrading their phone. Not just that, when it comes to developer support, Sony is second to none. Back in mid-2012, Jean-Baptiste Queru, popularly JBQ (Tech Lead for the Android™ Open-Source Project at Google) started a project with the goal of building a vanilla Android version for Sony Xperia S and Sony surprised the Droid world by releasing binaries to support that project and today, they released binaries for Xperia Z AOSP project. If you want to contribute, go through this post thoroughly before proceeding.
What this means is that you can expect a truckload of ROMs for Xperia Z and this can play right into Sony’s hands as currently, Xperia Z is considered inferior to the competition. You can check the AOSP for Xperia Z project on GitHub and you can download Xperia Z binaries from here.
This new project will be maintained by Johan Redestig and Björn Andersson, senior software engineers at Sony. Do note that some of the binaries are provided by Qualcomm and are proprietary so you have to accept an end user license agreement before downloading these. Added below is a video demo of Xperia Z running AOSP ROM.
