SanDisk, one of the leading makers of memory cards for a range of devices has announced a new 256 GB Ultra microSDXC UHS-1 A1 memory card. If you are not yet confused because of that ridiculously long name, it’s just a brand new 256 GB microSD card, with transfer speeds of up to 95 MB per second. This new memory card was launched during the ongoing CES 2017 event.
We all use memory cards, or have used them anyway. However, with phone companies finally making the move to more faster internal storage, using a memory card with slower speeds makes the entire experience subpar. To help alleviate these issues, this new microSD card from SanDisk features the new A1 requirement of the SD 5.1 specification of the SD Association. It’s all sounding a little confusing now, but the basic gist is this – the new A1 spec is faster.
Starting Android 6.0 Marshmallow, users can insert the microSD card and have Android treat this storage as a part of the phone itself. Google has called this feature as Adoptable Storage. This allows apps to be installed directly on the microSD card, without the user having to do anything to move the app from internal storage to the microSD card manually. Thanks to the faster speeds of Random Read IOPS (Input Output Access Per Second) of 1500 and Write IOPS of 500, apps should now launch faster and work more smoothly.
SanDisk has priced this new 256 GB Ultra microSDXC UHS-1 A1 Memory Card at $199.99
