Samsung Notebook Odyssey is the Korean electronics giant’s first try at a dedicated gaming notebook. Unveiled at CES 2017, the Notebook Odyssey comes in 17.3″ and 15.6″ display variants.Powered by 7th Gen Intel Core i7 processors, the Samsung Notebook Odyssey can excel at gaming thanks to NVIDIA GTX 1050 GPU. There is no detail yet on what the pricing would be or when the notebook will be available for sale.
Gaming notebook industry is seeing some breathtaking innovations. While Samsung’s entry model looks great, it has to deal with experienced players like ASUS, Alienware, Razer that make truly stunning notebooks. Will they succeed in this, only time will tell.
“The Samsung Notebook Odyssey was designed specifically with gamers in mind and is equipped with exclusive features to offer users one of the best gaming notebook available on the market,” said YoungGyoo Choi, Senior Vice President of the PC Business Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “Today, serious and even casual gamers seek computing devices that not only pack power for intense graphics-rich games but also feature a stylish and portable design. We’re excited to expand our PC portfolio with a premium gaming solution featuring refinements in design, cutting-edge technology and enhanced gaming usability.”
One interesting aspect of Samsung Notebook Odyssey design is the trackpad alignment. Till date we have seen rectangular trackpad aligned to space bar but Samsung has created a rhombus shaped trackpad. The clickable/touch are though is spaped as a square. Its the design that makes the trackpad look to be in rhombus shape. The trackpad has red accented border that is brighter towards top left and bottom right edges and fades to black towards other two corners. The keyboard for 17.3″ model is fully backlit with customizable backlit keys while th 15.6″ variant only has WASD keys with backlighting.
Users can add up to 64GB of DDR4 RAM, thanks to four RAM slots on 17.3″. On 15.6″, up to 32GB of RAM can be added (16GB per slot). Coming to storage, Samsung Notebook Odyssey 15.6″ variant can have dual 256GB SSD and a 1TB HDD option while the 17.3″ variant can have up to 512GB SSD with 1TB HDD. The Notebook will be available in black and white color variants and we feel that black looks far better than the white model. Ports options include a Type-C port, HDMI port, multiple USB ports etc.
