R.I.P Rockmelt Browser, all hail Rockmelt Web
Rockmelt Browser, widely knows as the ‘social browser’ first came out in 2010 (based on Google Chrome browser) and has struggled forever to gain traction. Today, Rockmelt team has announced that they are halting development for the browser as it is getting more and more expensvie to maintain the browser.
To replace Rockmelt Browser, a new platform is launched, named ‘Rockmelt Web’. Rockmelt Web is a new way to access your favourite sites, discover new sites and is accessed as rockmelt.com. Rockmelt Web is currently available only as a beta and on invites only. Application for iOS is already available for use.
“Rockmelt.com is now a visual stream of the web; content from your favorite sites, your favorite people, and a dash of crazy stuff you never would have discovered. It’s all highly personalized and pushed to you. It’s social; your friends make your experience better, just like you do theirs. It’s interactive; you can pivot on people and hashtags, @mention friends, and explore categories and sources. And, we’ve pushed the limits of HTML5 and Javascript, to deliver a highly interactive app-quality experience in a website.”, said Tim Howes and Eric Vishira, founders of Rockmelt.
