Reliance Communications Launches 4G VoLTE Fixed Landline Phone
In one of the industry firsts yet again, Reliance Communications announced the launch of a new landline phone powered by 4G VoLTE technology. The latest landline device from Reliance Communications banks on the current popularity of 4G VoLTE in the country.
In an effort to migrate its CDMA subscriber base to 4G, the new Fixed Wireless Phone device comes with an option for existing subscribers to upgrade to this new device. The company is describing this new device as India’s first 4G LTE home phone.
So how does it work?
The FWP device works like a regular wireless landline phone. You can carry the device around freely since it is not connected to any wire. The device connects directly to Reliance Communications’ network over 4G LTE. Voice over LTE, more popularly known as VoLTE, allows you to connect to a much faster network and results in a much better voice quality compared to wired copper connections.
Apart from the 4G VoLTE connectivity, the FWP device from Reliance also comes with dual antennas – one for connecting to the Reliance network, and another that emits Wi-Fi signals. This allows you to connect other Wi-Fi capable devices to the network. The FWP device allows you to connect up to 8 devices over Wi-Fi.
The FWP device runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop and supports SMS and YouTube casting to a smart TV.
