Redmi Note 6 Pro launched in India, are you disappointed?
Redmi Note Pro series have always been the pinnacle of mid-range smartphone mobiles and it would be a reference for anyone in the industry. It would be the mobile to beat that year and almost every manufacturer in the industry would try to compete the Note Pro series in that price range. Every iteration of the Note pro series would be a major upgrade from its predecessor, until now. Redmi Note 6 Pro has been launched in India, but it is just a minor upgrade from Note 5 Pro.
Compared to Note 5 Pro
Redmi Note 5 Pro has been the mobile to beat in 2018. This year mobiles priced between 10k to 20k have all been trying to compete with Note 5 pro. I have compared most of these mobiles with Note 5 Pro and found that the Note 5 Pro is the best mobile under Rs 15000 in 2018. But how does the Note 6 pro compete with Note 5 Pro?
- Note 6 Pro has a notch. Keeping up with the growing trend of mobiles with notches, the Note 6 Pro embraces notch. If you are not a fan of Notch, stop reading and find yourself a Note 5 Pro and be happy. You are not missing anything major.
- Note 6 Pro has dual front camera. The 20 MP selfie shooter is now assisted by a 2 MP depth sensor. The front camera on the Note 5 Pro has been impressive with its portrait modes as well, but it would be interesting to see if the Note 6 Pro bring any major improvements to the edge detection and background blurring.
- The aperture size of the primary 12 MP camera is f/1.9 and the sensor size is now 1.4 microns.
- The camera software has been upgraded and the quality of images from Note 6 pro is said to be considerably better than Note 5 Pro, and similar to the Mi A2.
- We also now have AI enabled scene detection for recognizing the image and process it based on the scene.
- Adjustable bokeh, dynamic bokeh, light trails and studio lighting are some of the new features on the camera app.
- Because of the notch, the size of the display has increased to 6.26 inches from 5.99 inches. The screen to body ratio has increased to 81%
What has not changed?
- Design. Nothing different in the design of the mobile. It is the same metal finish with smooth curved body.
- Battery: 4000 mAh
- Processor: Snapdragon 636
- Hybrid SIM Card
- Dual VoLTE
- and practically every other specification from the Note 5 Pro

Are you disappointed? I am not exactly disappointed, but I was hoping till the last moment that Xiaomi would pull of a differnet processor variant of Note 6 Pro in India. But seeing that nothing has changed significantly, can ease the Note 5 Pro buyers pulse rate. Note 5 Pro is a mega hit of 2018 and if you have bought one, be happy. If you have been missing the notch on the Note 5 Pro for some weird reasons, maybe you can go ahead and buy the Note 6 Pro. Xiaomi has nailed it in the pricing segment as usual. What do you think? I will update my thoughts on my full review coming up soon.
