Qualcomm releases Snapdragon 412 and 212 for budget and midrange devices
Chipset manufacturer Qualcomm had updated their entry level and lower mid range chipsets last year due to the growth of 4G connectivity. Even entry level and midrange devices were expected to have LTE connectivity now. This resulted in the production of Snapdragon 410 and 210. Today, these chipsets are being updated with better features in the Snapdragon 412 and 212.
Snapdragon 412:
There is an increase in the processing core speed from its predecessor. It is now the recommended lower midrange SoC from Qualcomm. The Snapdragon 412 has four cores running at 1.4Ghz per core, compared to the 1.2Ghz per core speed of the Snapdragon 410. The 412 also has faster RAM speed at 600 Mhz compared to 533 MHz of the 410. It has Adreno 306 GPU and Cat 4 LTE speeds of upto 150 Mbps.
Snapdragon 212:
The Snapdragon 212 is the cheaper, budget friendly option. There is an improvement in its Quad-core speeds to 1.3Ghz per core from the Snapdragon 210’s 1.1Ghz per core. It is supported by the same Adreno 304 GPU and supports upto 8MP for the main camera. It has Cat 4 LTE connectivity and has Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 feature.
We are going to see a lot of budget and midrange smartphones and tablets featuring these chipsets by the end of 2015 or early 2016. Watch out for these devices.
