Qualcomm QuickCharge 3 can charge compatible phone 4 times faster than normal charger

Battery life is the Achilles heel for modern smartphones. OEMs are hell bent on reducing the thickness and as a result, they keep on compromising battery size. Qualcomm’s QuickCharge is the best workaround. A smartphone with built in QuickCharge 2.0 can provide 7-8 hour battery life if you charge the phone for, say, 30 minutes. Among all those new features that popped up in last few  years (NFC, wireless charging, fingerprint reading etc), we would rate QuickCharge to be among the best. Today, Qualcomm has announced version 3 of QuickCharge technology and this is 38% more efficient than QC2 and is 4x faster than conventional charging.

Quick Charge 3.0 will be available in some of the recently announced Snapdragon chips (Snapdragon 820, 620, 681, 617, 430 etc) and the first batch of devices should be available by end of this year.

QC3.0 comes with a new algorithm that helps the device to determine what power level to request at any point of time, supports wider voltage options (200mV increments from 3.6V to 20V), allow device to dynamically adjust voltage level based on the device. Devices that comes with QuickCharge 3.0 are backward compatible with QC1.0 and QC2.0 chargers and QC3.0 can be implemented using wide range of connectors (USB type-A, micro USB, Type-C etc). QuickCharge 3.0 will be supported by wide range of (future) accessories like wall chargers, car chargers, battery packs etc.
