Qualcomm @ MWC 2014

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 SoC is currently the most desired SoC for smartphones and tablet. 800 is extremely fast, power efficient and highly reliable, has LTE built in. This week, at MWC, Qualcomm announce Snapdragon 801, successor to the 800. Snapdragon 801 improves upto 800 in imaging, graphics, sd card support, performance and support for dual SIM modules. Majority of improvement is done in imaging department. 801 comes with support for larger and faster imaging sensors, better post processing. We should see Snapdragon 801 powered devices very very soon.

Galaxy S5 to come with Snapdragon 801 SoC

Qualcomm has announced that Samsung’s new flagship smartphone, Galaxy S5 will be powered by Snapdragon 801 processor. Snapdragon 801 processor comes with integrated LTE radio, Adreno 330 GPU, quad core Krait™ 400 CPU at up to 2.5GHz per core and Hexagon™ QDSP6 (DSP based multithreaded CPU) for ultra-low power applications.

Qualcomm and Samsung demo LTE cat 6 with speeds upto 300Mbps

At MWC 2014, Qualcomm gave world’s first live demo of LTE category 6 connectivity. Using a modified Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (powered by Snapdragon 805 and Qualcomm® Gobi 9×35 modem), Qualcomm gave a demo showcasing the future of LTE radio. LTE cat 6 can achieve upto 300Mbps. This is nearly 6 times faster than 3G (56 Mbit/s downlink and 22Mbps uplink) and two times faster than LTE cat 5.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 and 610 announced

At MWC 2014, Qualcomm has announced Snapdraon 615 SoC, with worlds first 64 bit eight core CPU with integrated LTE and Snapdragon 610 SoC which has a quad core 64 bit CPU. Both 615 and 610 also include RF360 front end solution (for a single SKU with all five modes). Snapdragon 615 and 610 come with newer Adreno 405 GPU, supporting OpenGL3.0 and DirectX 11 and allows hardware tessellation. CPU is an ARM Cortex A53 CPU supporting new ARM v8 instruction set. Listed below is the full set of specification. Devices powered by 610 and 615 should hit market by end of the year 2014.
