Poco is now an Independent Brand – F2 coming soon?
Xiaomi launched Poco F1 in India in Aug 2018. Poco was a sub-brand of Xiaomi and it represented a new line up of mobiles. Unfortunately, after Poco F1, we never saw a successor to F1 till date. There have been numerous leaks online and till date there is no official confirmation from Xiaomi. But today, Xiaomi India spun off Poco as an Independent brand. This means that Poco can now operate on its own and need not be dependent of Xiaomi. Xiaomi will still have certain control and a say on Poco’s activities, but Poco need not be dependent on Xiaomi for a number of factors.
While this may not affect existing or potential Poco customers, it also confirms the fact that Poco as a brand is here to stay and we will get to see a lot of new products from Poco. They also launched their own website poco.net and took down the listing on mi.com, but it is still being sold on mi.com.
Poco has been the most loved sub-brand from Xiaomi in India. Poco F1 is one of the top-selling mobiles since its launch. It has been almost 2 years and after multiple price cuts and offers, Poco F1 is still the best mobile to buy under 20k. In fact it is now available for Rs 14999 and it can beat any new mobile launched in that price segment, hands down. It has got the best performance in that price range. Poco also has a very active developer community as well.
Now all we have to do is to wait for Poco F1’s successor to be launched. It was launched as Pocofone elsewhere in the globe, but I don’t think it got as much love and attention as the Poco F1 got in India. Poco now being an Independent brand, we are not sure about who will be heading it. We will update as we get to know.
