If you are an Android enthusiast, you may already be aware about the OpenGApps project. Allowing you to install Google Play services and other Google apps on custom ROMs, the GApps archives are continuously developed and updated by the people behind the Open GApps project. Today, they launched a new app to help you download the right package in a click.
The Open GApps app lets you download the latest Open GApps packages directly from the project’s website, OpenGApps.org. The project offers a range of options with respect to the number of Google Apps you want in the GApps package – all the way from a 100 MB to 1 GB, offering an extremely basic Google Apps package to a fully loaded installer offering almost all Google apps in the Play Store.
One of the most often asked questions by new users is which GApps package should they install. Using the OpenGapps app, you can download and install the right package without bothering about which is the correct one for your phone and OS. The OpenGapps app will automatically detect the OS and API version, the CPU architecture – ARM, ARM64, x86 or x86_64.
If your device is already rooted, you can grant root permission to the OpenGApps app. This will allow the app to install any updates seamlessly.
All in all, this is an extremely simple app, and lets you jump into the Android enthusiast shoes slowly without being overwhelmed.
OpenGApps is available for free on the Google Play Store.
