OnePlus opens a massive R&D center in Hyderabad
OnePlus has become global front runners in premium mobile phone segment in a very short time. When brands were struggling to sustain in the market, OnePlus came out of nowhere and made it through the difficult times of the Industry and are now in a very comfortable position. India is one of the largest markets for OnePlus mobile and it has a large community in India. Recognizing and strengthening this commitment, OnePlus inaugurated its first Research and Development (R&D) center in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. The R&D center is located in Sohni Tech Park in Gachibowli, right next to Amazon’s new campus. Interestingly, Amazon has been OnePlus’s trusted sales channel all through their journey in India.
OnePlus will be investing Rs 1000 Crore in this R&D center to make it their largest R&D center globally. Currently, their Shenzhen R&D center in China is the largest and they have 5 other centers around the world. The research center in Hyderabad is currently located on the 17th floor of Sohni Tech Park which is spread over 6000 sq.ft. In the next 1 year, two more floors will be operational and they plan to expand up to 5 floors in the same building. The Hyderabad R&D center will be spread across a whopping 186000 square feet and will have seats for about 1500 employees in three years.
This center will be a pivotal location for OnePlus to develop AI and ML-based OnePlus products and applications. It will be a place where innovation is driven in the field of mobile technology specific to India and applicable globally. The center will concentrate on Camera, networking, and automation. 5G testing and AI-based innovation will also be developed from here.
Currently, OnePlus mobiles are made in Gurgaon at their Oppo factory. Speaking at the Inauguration, Former IT Minister KT Ramarao, appreciated Founder and CEO of OnePlus. Pete Lao’s choice of city for the R&D center. He also urged them to look at the possibility of setting up a factory in Telangana state. OnePlus will soon be opening a massive Experience Store in Himayatnagar in Hyderabad.
