OnePlus One sales to be stopped in India after stock is cleared, injunction by Micromax

Micromax, a company that became famous by copying designs of major brands and offering them at a cheap price has managed to get an injunction against OnePlus. Micromax has noted that they have exclusive rights in India to use CyanogenMod branding and operating system in India and that by using the same on OnePlue One smartphone, OnePlus has violated the exclusivity. Delhi high court has agreed on this and has ordered OnePlus to stop selling their product in India. The respite though is that OnePlus can clear existing stock. Given that this is done just one day before Micromax’s Yu smartphone goes on sale shows Micromax’s intent on blocking the only other phone that comes with CyanogenMod operating system.

OnePlus can drag CyanogenMod to court for breach of contract but this can be done only in USA’s California state and they cannot have a say in India. We do hope that OnePlus gets their home-baked ROM ready as soon as possible and ditch CyanogenMod so that they can continue sales in South Asia region where Micromax is holding exclusivity. Did Micromax think what would happen if all those companies whose designs they copied hit them with lawsuits for copying their designs? Are they aware that by going against company that has won many fans and followers across the globe can destroy their feeble image?
