Oculus announce Rift VR headset and Touch controller

Oculus, the leading maker of virtual reality headsets has come up with a new model meant for next generation VR gaming. Named Rift, the new headset has dual AMOLED displays that provide incredible clarity (with low persistence). The headset is tracked using IR LED constellation tracking system for precise position/orientation tracking. The new VR headset comes with integrated headphones and a microphone. Also announced the Oculus Touch, an input device that can be used for efficient interaction with VR environment. Oculus Touch is a pair of VR controllers, one for each hand and each controller has an analogue thumb stick, two buttons and an analogue trigger.

Oculus Rift improves over its predecessor in ergonomics department. Rift comes with adjustable straps and putting it on is as easy as putting on a baseball cap. Users can also adjust the distance between the lenses to created better and comfortable experience. Those who use prescription glasses will benefit, thanks to the better form factor designed to accommodate prescription glasses. Oculus has also announced that they will bundle Xbox One controller with every Rift headset (thanks to collaboration with Microsoft) and that Microsoft will launch support for Oculus Rift for Xbox One games.

Oculus Touch on the other hand has an array of IR LED constellation tracking system that helps users to interact with VR world freely. The controller does come with haptic feedback. The matrix of sensors mounted throughout the Touch controller will recognize set of hand poses like pointing, waving, thumbs-up. Oculus has announced that they will invest $10,000,000 to accelerate and support VR game development. Excited about this? Bummer is that Oculus Touch will ship in first half of 2016 and will be available for pre-order later this year.
