Nook HD and HD+ software update adds support for Google Play Store
It just looks like Barnes&Noble is really desperate to improve sales of their Nook HD and HD+ tablets which were swept away by low cost 7″ tablets like Kindle Fire and Nexus 7. After a heavy price cut few weeks ago (16GB 9″ tablet for just $179 and 32GB variant for $209), B&N has announced that a new software update is live and the update will give users access to 700,000+ Android applications and games on Google Play store by adding Google Play application to the tablets. Few more Google Apps like Chrome, YouTube, Maps and Gmail are also added to the tablets and users can purchase songs from Google Play.
We do hope that this adds some value for this decent tablet and turns the fortunes for B&N. If you already own a Nook HD or HD+ tablet, you need to update to version 2.1.0 and the update is available as automatic download that is downloaded and applied when you connet the tablet to Wi-Fi. Please make sure that the tablet has enough charge so that it does not turn off while the update it happening. Also, you can initiate udpate from Settings -> All Settings -> Device Information -> Software Version -> Check of updates and follow on -screen instructions.
