Nokia upgrades Asha into low cost platform, announces Asha 501
Nokia Asha device lineup was first announced as part of restructuring program. Aimed at budget users, Series 40 based Asha feature phones were a big hit in developing countries. Nokia has last week announced that they are upgrading the Asha lineup to full fledged platform. Nokia built the new Asha platform by combining the efforts put into Series 40 and Smarterphone acquisition. One great aspect of Asha platform is that the platform provides developers an open standards based environment. According to Nokia, application developed for Asha platform should work on all future Asha feature phones. With deep social network integration and features like fastlane, Xpress Browser, the best feature phone platform has become better.
