Nexus 6 gets the iFixit treatment, scores a decent 7
Google’s latest smartphone, the Nexus 6, has been torn apart by iFixit. And as usual, the guys there have pictured the device’s internals in all their glory.
The Nexus 6 is all premium now, and it shows – the components have been pieced together really well, and it’s easy to replace a lot of them – the cameras, buttons, audio jack, for example, are easy to replace. The midframe is not glued together, so there’s going to be no sticky business if you ever decide to rip the thing apart.
The display and the digitizer have been fused together, but that’s normal for most of the phones these days. The other downer for the Nexus 6 in terms of repairability is that the USB port, SIM slot, vibrator and the speaker have been soldered directly to the motherboard, so if either of those fail and you need to replace them, it’s going to be a bit difficult and/or costly.
