Microsoft reveals Windows 10 requirements for PCs and phones
Microsoft has been talking up Windows 10 a lot and that is because the software giant will be releasing the newest version of Windows later this year in the third quarter. The company has, therefore, found it appropriate to release system requirements for both Windows PCs as well as phones.
At the company’s just concluded WinHEC event, the company revealed a lot of details and new features of Windows 10 for users as well as developers. The company also went on to set the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 10 to make sure Windows 10 users have the most optimal user experience.
All Windows 10 mobile devices, encompassing phones and tablets, will have to have a UEFI 2.3.1 firmware with Secure Boot enabled, a minimum of 512 MB RAM and 4 GB of onboard storage if there is an SD card being used.
For PCs, things change a bit. The minimum screen size is just 7 inches, with a 800×600 resolution and 1 GB RAM. UEFI 2.3.1 and secure boot are required as well, with 1 GB RAM and 16 GB storage for 32-bit Windows and 2 GB RAM and 20 GB storage for 64-bit Windows. DirectX 9 graphics are required at a minimum, with a power, volume button also being necessary.
Microsoft also announced support for different processors from three major vendors. Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 810, 808 are now supported apart from Intel’s Cherry Trail, Skylake and Atom x3. AMD’s Carrizo and Carrizo-L processors are also supported.
