Microsoft Outlook for iOS and Android released

Microsoft has released Outlook app for iOS and Android. The app is in stable version on iOS, and in preview for Android (say, beta). Outlook is actually a rebranded version of Accompli app, which Microsoft acquired recently.

Outlook allows you to add a variety of email accounts. You can add Gmail, Yahoo!, Outlook.com (duh) or any other IMAP based account. There’s Exchange support as well, thereby covering needs of most of the users. Apart from email, Outlook can sync Calendar, Contacts and files from Office 365, Exchange Online, Exchange Server (2007 SP2, 2010, 2013), Outlook.com, Gmail, iCloud and Yahoo! Mail.Other Accompli features like sorting mails based on their importance, continue to exist. They will probably never go away.

<img alt=”Outlook_1″ src=”http://www.gadgetdetail.com/wp-content/uploads/files/Outlook_1_thumb.png” style=”border-bottom:0px; border-left:0px; border-right:0px; border-top:0px; display:block; float:none; height:375px; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; width:600px” title=”Outlook_1″ />

Not just that, it also allows you to attach files from OneDrive and Dropbox, among other sources, so that you don’t have to go around forwarding attachments in the traditional way. This is neat, and something I’m looking forward to make good use of.

If you’re not impressed yet, Microsoft has actually gone ahead and used iOS and Android specific design guidelines for the iOS and Android versions respectively. That’s actually very good, considering Google’s hostile attitude towards Microsoft’s products.
