Microsoft OneDrive can now feed music and playlists to Xbox Music application

Microsoft’s OneDrive application is definitely on a roll for last one year. Microsoft has made this a must have online cloud storage service and thanks to tight integration with Office, OneDrive has become a very useful service in Microsoft’s ecosystem. This week, Microsoft has taken it further to make OneDrive a must have file sharing service for personal use. Microsoft has announced that personal music collection that is stored on OneDrive will be accessible across Windows devices using the free Xbox Music application. There is a new Music folder in OneDrive. Any music file that is uploaded here will appear in Xbox Music applications.

Not just on Windows devices, the files can be accessed from Xbox Music app for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. You can even listen to the music by going to the OneDrive web site using a web browser on a computer. If you have an Xbox Music pass, you get to have an extra 100GB of storage on OneDrive and this means that you can upload all of your music collection online and never lose it!

The best part is that you can create playlists and these get synced across devices. You can use music from OneDrive and the music from Xbox Pass subscription to create these playlists. The bummer though is that you need to hve an Xbox Live account if you want to have music from OneDrive sync with Xbox Music application for Windows Phone 8.1. As per Microsoft, this may not be a permanent requirement.
