Microsoft launches OneDrive API for developers across platforms

OneDrive API

Microsoft is continuing with its crazy new cross-platform strategy. The Redmond is launching a new OneDrive API for cross-platform sync of different services. Developers can leverage this new API to manage data of their services across Android, Windows, iOS and the web.

  • the ability to retrieve new changes to files and folders to efficiently keep a large set of files in sync with minimal calls
  • resumable uploads of files up to 10 GB via file-fragment uploading for working with rich content, like HD videos
  • customizable file thumbnail images for delivering a more integrated experience across your app and OneDrive

Microsoft is already using its new API internally. The company will also provide the same set of tools that it uses, marking quite a change from its stance a few years ago. Also, they have teamed up with a few developers already, beginning with PicMonkey, PandaDoc and IFTTT, integrating the new API in their services.
