Microsoft announce Office apps for Android, iOS users can edit docs for free
Well, this is a surprise from Microsoft. Another surprise move to be precise. Just days after announcing partnership with Dropbox, today, Microsoft has released new Office suite for iOS and preview version for Android but the big news is that the application suite is free to use. Users can now edit Office compatible documents for free and store them in the cloud. Do note that if documents are stored on OneDrive for Business or Dropbox for business, users will need to have Office 365 subscription to edit the documents. New Office for iPad and Office for iPhone apps are available in 136 countries and in 29 languages. Users will need at least iOS version 7.0. “Anytime someone has an idea or an inspiration, we want to empower them to take action,” said John Case, corporate vice president, Office, Microsoft. “With over a billion Office customers worldwide, and over 40 million downloads on the iPad, it’s clear that Office applications are what people want to use to get things done.”
Here is what is new in version 1.2 of iTunes:
- Create and edit documents for FREE: all you need to do is sign in with a free Microsoft account.
- Dropbox support: open, edit, and save documents from Dropbox.
- Universal app: Word now also runs beautifully on your iPhone and iPod touch, and is designed especially for a smaller screen.
- Reflow view: on your phone, choose between the real document layout or an easy-to-read layout.
- Chart elements: customize charts by adding or removing chart elements such as titles, legends, axis titles and more.
