HockeyApp acquired by Microsoft

Microsoft has acquired HockeyApp, a beta distribution service used by a lot of developers. Microsoft isn’t just acquiring HockeyApp for its talent, but even for its tech – the company announced that it plans to integrate HockeyApp into its Application Insights service through Visual Studio Online.

The acquisition seems even more understandable – HockeyApp supports a wide variety of platforms already, and Microsoft intends to bring its Application Insights service to Android and iOS soon.

Per HockeyApp, Microsoft has already been an old customer, using the company’s services since 2011. The company was founded in 2011. Neither party has revealed any information about the acquisition value, so far.

If you’re an existing customer of HockeyApp, nothing changes for you. If anything, Microsoft will integrate HockeyApp into its own services, so it looks like they won’t be bothering you. For now.
