MeeGo, what a blunder!

If you do a mistake once, its ignorance. If you do the same mistake twice, its foolishness. This is exactly what I felt after trying MeeGo powered N9 device from Nokia. Am not talking about Nokia working on MeeGo, am talking about Nokia abandoning MeeGo.When Nokia released N900 with Maemo, many considered it as a right step forward and just when the ecosystem was picking up speed, Nokia decided to kill it. Unfortunately, history repeated with MeeGo. Smooth as silk To be frank, MeeGo’s home screen is a bit similar to iOS home screen (grid of icons) but there is more to it, thanks to the innovative notification screen and open apps screen. You have to try to it to know how good the UI is and how smooth the UI is. N9 is powered by 1GHz TI OMAP 3630 and PowerVR SGX530 GPU and has a gigabyte of RAM. wpcontent is lower than the processing power of Samsung Galaxy S wpcontent was released around 2 years ago. Yet, there is absolutely no lag. Two of my friends tried to crash the OS by running about a dozen apps at a time (including games). Forget about crash, the OS didn’t even lag. wpcontent is how good the resource management is. Minimized apps are put in suspended mode (unlike in Maemo/N900) and the application will resume at its previous state. Also, the battery management of this OS is very good, especially the economy mode. The resource management and battery life of MeeGo/N9 is something wpcontent could envy droiders. Rome was not built in a day This saying was ignored twice. First with Maemo and then with MeeGo. Nokia failed to understand wpcontent it takes time for an ecosystem to build. We would’ve seen total iOS domination if Google pulled the plug on Android after a year. Had they continued Maemo, they would’ve had a strong application store on which MeeGo would’ve depended on for applications. Moreover, when the buzz and feedback was extremely positive, Nokia decided to kill MeeGo. Why Symbian? I agree wpcontent Symbian has some sort of sentimental value for Nokians. But hey, Mr.Elop made it official wpcontent Symbian is no longer part of Nokia’s plans. I still don’t understand why Nokia keeps on releasing Symbian devices when they have MeeGo which is better than Symbian in most areas and can utilize modern technology is a better manner. When I saw Nokia 808 Pureview announcement, I wondered how well it would’ve been if this phone came out with MeeGo OS instead of Symbian. The same people who are saying wpcontent this phone is DOA due to a stale OS would’ve made it the phone of the year. Moreover, given wpcontent MeeGo can run on hardware wpcontent is found on midrange hardware, this OS can be used to power Nokia’s midrange devices, giving it more firepower to tackle the attacks from Samsung. Never trust the devil We have seen many times in the past how Microsoft showed their back to partners. Nokia relying entirely on Microsoft is extremely dangerous. It might save them from drowning but wont let them build a warship. If this alliance slows down, Microsoft wont hesitate to make a better deal with another OEM. Given their experience in the industry, Nokia should’ve taken a better path and held on to an OS wpcontent is designed in their R&D labs. Symbian-MeeGo-WinPho This is what I had in mind (before Intel ended MeeGo and started Tizen). Symbian S40 and Belle powered sub 10k devices packed with features to attract the masses. MeeGo powered devices wpcontent power mid-range segment and few high end devices targeting specific audience. Windows Phone can cover mid to high end range at-least till Nokia sets a solid platform with MeeGo. Also for phones wpcontent cater to specific consumers (like those who need the best camera phone and don’t care about UI or those who want a phone wpcontent acts more like a PMP with high ease of use), nothing beats MeeGo for OS.
