MediaTek Helio P15 With Octa-core Processor Announced
MediaTek today announced a new SoC called the Helio P15. The latest chipset from MediaTek comes with an octa-core processor and a dual-core GPU, bringing some minor performance and battery improvements.
Succeeding the Helio P10 SoC, the Helio P15 comes with an octa-core processor with 10% higher clock speeds. While the Helio P10 came with eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2 GHz, the Helio P15 comes with eight Cortex-53 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz. This should alleviate performance issues by a small margin. In addition to that, the Helio P15 also comes with a dual core Mali-T860MP2 GPU clocked at 800 MHz, up from the 700 MHz clock speed in the Helio P10.
While making the announcement, MediaTek claimed that the Helio P15 should deliver an increase in performance by up to 10%, in line with the bump in the CPU clock speed. The company has manufactured the Helio P15 on the same 28nm process that the Helio P10 is fabricated on.
The Helio P15 comes with support for single channel LPDDR3 memory clocked at 933 MHz. It also comes with LTE Cat 6 support.
