MediaTek announce Helio high end smartphone SoC
Ever since MediaTek entered smartphone chip business, they were busy releasing chips for low end and midrange smartphones and tablets. With Helio SoC (System-on-Chip) family, MediaTek is going to target the high end market. Helio SoCs combine high performance and low power consumption. Given how Qualcomm is getting bad reviews for Snapdragon 810, if MediaTek managed to provide a better chip for high end smartphones that generates less heat, takes less power and delivery great performance, Qualcomm will be in big trouble.
The first Helio chip will be the X10 series that comes with eight Cortex-A53 cores (maximum of 2.2GHz clock) and can support display refresh rates of 120Hz and allow slo-mo videos at 480fps. These chips will be available for OEMs in second quarter of 2015. MediaTek will also release Helio P-series chips which target absolute premium models.
“Helio is MediaTek’s premium mobile processor family which integrates leading heterogeneous computing technology with advanced multimedia innovations,” the company said.
