Line acquires MixRadio from Microsoft
Line, a popular messaging app from Asia, has acquired MixRadio, one of the two music services owned by Microsoft. Rumours were around about a possible sale of the service for a few months now, so this is no surprise. Then again, probably not many imagined Line, a chat app, would be the one to own it a few months down the line.
Jung-ho Shin, CGO (Chief Globalisation Officer) of LINE Corporation and CEO of LINE Plus Corporation, said “LINE has been ceaselessly evolving to become the world’s leading mobile life platform. I am confident that MixRadio provides an outstanding music service, which is an important component of consumers’ life. I also believe that LINE’s global footprints will further enable MixRadio to bring endless pleasure to them.”
Jyrki Rosenberg, Head of MixRadio, adds, “LINE shares our vision and passion for simple, personal and fun user experiences while constantly delivering innovation to our listeners. This partnership presents huge scope to expand our service to even more people around the world.”
MixRadio, which first started off as Nokia Music, was later renamed to Ovi Music, to Nokia Music to Nokia MixRadio, to MixRadio, the music service has seen a lot of drama. Supported in 31 countries, MixRadio will be used to improve Line Music, a service which Line added recently. It’s a subscription based service too, like MixRadio.
