[CES 2015] LG G Flex2 is smaller, bendier and comes with 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor

LG has announced the successor to its unique G Flex smartphone. The LG G Flex2, as they call it, is a smaller and a bendier version of the original G Flex. And right now, it’s the fastest smartphone out there.

LG G Flex 2

The LG G Flex2 sees improvements in many areas, but the most notable is the screen size – down from the unwieldy 6” to the much better 5.5”. The screen resolution has been bumped from 720p to 1080p, but LG will be using the same P-OLED screen. The phone’s screen is curved to a 700mm radius, whereas the back is curved to a 650mm radius. In total, the G Flex2 is curved at 4 different places to 4 different radii.

The specs:

  • Android 5.0 Lollipop with LG’s custom UI on top
  • 5.5” curved P-OLED Full HD display, 1920×1080 pixels, ~403 PPI
  • 64-bit Quad-core 2 GHz Cortex-A57, Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Adreno 430 GPU
  • 2 GB / 3 GB RAM, 16 GB / 32 GB internal memory
  • 13 MP camera, dual LED flash, OIS+, 1080p @ 60 FPS recording; front facing 2.1 MP camera
  • LTE, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, Self healing back panel
  • 3000 mAh battery

While the G Flex didn’t set any sales records on fire, the G Flex2 seems like a very well rounded (pardon the pun) package. LG is sticking with a 1080p screen, which should help the battery compared to the QHD displays being used of late. Of course, this decision is merely incidental – they’re still using last year’s display technology for P-OLED, but this should help battery anyway.

The LG G Flex2 will come in two colours. The company hasn’t announced any pricing details, but the phone should become available by the end of the month in South Korea with other markets to follow soon after.
