LG announce V10 flagship smartphone with second display and dual selfie cameras

These days, it is absolutely impossible for the big brands to hide any new product launches. For last few days, the blogosphere has been abuzz about new smartphone from LG with a dual screen (a small strip of display on top of the display panel). They were spot on. LG V10 is the new Android smartphone from the Korean electronics giant, featuring ‘Second Screen’ as inset display above the 5.7” QHD IPS Quantum Display. Consider the second display as the one similar to the edge screen on Samsung’s Edge series but instead of vertical alignment, this one has horizontal alignment. V10 also has dual front facing cameras, manual video mode and the phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 808. V10 will be available in Korea in October will be released to other key markets later this year.

The ticker display, named ‘Second Screen’ can be set to always on and can display weather, time, date battery etc and take minimal battery juice. Users can also add shortcuts to the Second Screen, let it show notifications for call/text etc. The next interesting feature of V10 is the 5mp dual front camera setup. This is to let users take wide angle 120 degree selfies and add in a selfie stick and you can take some really really wide selfies. Coming to video recording, V10 is the first smartphone (they say) that comes with manual mode for video. Users can adjust shutter speed, frame rate, ISO, white balance and focus during recording. V10 supports video recording in HD, FullHD and UltraHD 4k resolutions and in 16:9 and 21:9 aspect ratios.

“The LG V10 was designed from the ground up primarily as a multimedia smartphone for the sharing ecosystem,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We heard from many customers that until the G4, they weren’t comfortable going on vacation or outings without a separate camera. With the V10, we hope to do for video what the G4 did for photographs.”
