Lenovo ThinkPad X280 and X380 Yoga powered by Intel Kaby Lake announced today

Lenovo ThinkPad X280 and X380 Yoga are new versions of the famed X series premium notebooks, now powered by Intel Kaby Lake processors. While Thinkpad X280 is priced at 999$ for base variant, the X380 Yoga will be priced at $1,459 for base variant. Both will be made available from January 2018.

Lenovo ThinkPad X280

Powered by new Core i7-8650U chip, the Lenovo ThinkPad X280 comes with up to 16GB of RAM, up to FullHD 12.5″ IPS panel and supports M.2 SSD drives. Unlike previous models, the new one comes with M.2 SSDs as standard. The 48Wh internal battery supports RapidCharge and can charge much faster when compared to previous ones. Coming to ports, there are two USB Type-C ports, a microSD card slot, Thunderbolt 3 based side docking port. X280 weighs 1.16kg.

The X270 still had a traditional 2.5″ HDD/SSD slot, something most Ultrabooks have dropped years ago. The X280 uses M.2 SSDs instead. In a similar move, Lenovo drops the single RAM slot in favor of up to 16 GB of soldered RAM. Nonetheless, the X280 should be the fasted traditional X series ThinkPad ever, thanks to the newest 15 W Quad-Core CPUs from Intel like the Core i7-8650U. Meanwhile, the display-options stay the same as with last years X270: A 12.5 inch IPS panel with up to Full-HD (1,920 x 1,080) with touch being optional.

Lenovo Thinkpad X380 Yoga

Lenovo ThinkPad X380 Yoga on the other hand is a 2-in-1 notebook, powered by 8th generation Core i7 chip. Like X280, the X380 can have up to 16GB of RAM. Other specs include up to 1TB NVMe SSD, up to 13.6 hour battery life and max weight of 3.1 pounds. The X380 Yoga has a 13.3″ FullHD touchscreen display and can be used in different modes like tent mode, tablet mode etc.
