Lenovo VIBE K5 Plus is ready to take the baton from A6000 Series

If there is one company other than Apple that is taking the right decision at the right time in computers and mobile devices, it is Lenovo. Lenovo rose to stardom by surprise acquisition of IBM’s ThinkPad and ThinkCentre notebook and desktop division and went on to become leading PC maker. Then, they surprised everyone by acquiring Motorola Mobility. But the biggest hit decision from Lenovo is to enter the Indian smartphone market at the right time and bringing the perfect smartphone, the Lenovo A6000 series. Though Xiaomi introduced the ‘flash sale’ concept in India, Lenovo mastered the concept to perfection and rose to #3 smartphone maker in India (in online sales). This month, lenovo is bringing out a new smartphone that will win the hearts of those (again) who loved the Lenovo A6000 Series and take the fight to competition (again). The Lenovo K5 Plus, first announced att Mobile World Congress event this year,  is coming to India very soon and in this article, we show you why the VIBE K5 Plus is the worthy successor to the super hit A6000 Series and the K3 Note. Lenovo VIBE K5 Plus is launched in India today (15th of March 2016) with a price tag of Rs.8,499/- and will be available through open sales (no flash sales, no invites) on Flipkart from 23rd of March.

Design and Build

While the A6000 plus came with a generic design, the K5 Plus, thanks to metallic finish looks absolutely stunning. The narrow bezel and the aluminum finish gives the phone a premium look and this time, Lenovo is bringing the phone in three color options (grey, silver, gold).

Display

Lenovo K5 Plus comes with same size 5″ display as in A6000 Plus but this one has a FullHD resolution (up from 720p resolution display on A6000 Plus). With a pixel density of 441 ppi, the K5 Plus’s display is definitely at a whole new level.

Dolby Audio, TheatreMax and ANTVR

We first tried the Dolby Atmos audio on the Lenovo A7000 and it was spectacular. Dolby Audio provides virtualized surround sound, dialogue enhancer, volume leveler, powerful equalizer and most importantly Dolby Digital pass-through which will allow your phone to pass audio to home theatre without any modifications (something that is a boon for audiophiles) so that the more powerful home theatre’s amplifier does the processing.

TheatreMax and ANTRVR are a new technologies that Lenovo introduced with the K4 Note. In simple terms, TheatreMax can convert an audio stream to create a virtual surround while ANTVR headset will convert  video and image into a virtual reality treat and by using the headset, you can get amazing cinematic experience. Gaming on the Lenovo VIBE K5 Plus can be a treat when you play using ANTVR headset with TheatreMax enabled. Also, as more and more content is enabled for ANTVR, Lenovo will get to have an upper hand in VR in mobile devices. As of now,  the VR kit is available for  ₹1,299. VIBE K5 Plus comes with dual stereo speakers that enhance movie viewing and gameplay experience.

Camera

The 13mp front camera is a great upgrade from 8mp and the front facing camera has a 5mp sensor (up from 2mp sensor in A6000 Plus). The quality will be much better than that on the A6000 Plus and we will update you more on this once we do thorough testing.

CPU/RAM/Storage

Lenovo K5 Plus is powered by the Snapdragon 615 chip and has 2GB of RAM onboard. There is 16GB of internal stroage which can be expanded using a microSD card. The Snapdragon 616 is one of the best chips for budget and mid range smartphones and is a massive upgrade from Snapdragon™ 410  on Lenovo A6000 Plus.

Battery

The A6000 Plus had very good battery life and with a bigger 2750mAh battery, the K5 Plus should be able to keep the smartphone up and running till end of the day.
