Leaf Ear – Bluetooth Earphones – Review

I have been looking to upgrade my Aukey Sports Bluetooth Earphones. I have been using it for over 4 years and it has been a good companion for me. But it is aging and I need a worthy replacement for it. According to me, a sports Bluetooth earphone must satisfy the following conditions.

1. Must have the perfect fit
2. Very light on weight
3. Non-noise canceling, as I must be aware of the surrounding while jogging on the road

Points 1 – 5 are very important and 6-8 are good to have. My Aukey earphones have been satisfying 1-6 points to an extent. Over the period of time, I have tried various Bluetooth earphones and none satisfied me. I then came across the Leaf Ear. I have been using it for over 2 months regularly and here is my review. Design

The earbuds are very lightweight. It is about 15 grams. It is made of plastic. Due to its weight, it may appear cheap in quality, but actually, it isn’t. It is sturdy. It fits perfectly in the ear. The ear fins assist the fit. The earbuds don’t block the ear canals completely, leaving space for air to pass in. This helps a lot for stability while running or aerobics. It has one big button for calls and music control. The button has good tactile feedback and easy to find. The volume keys are also easy to find and use.

The micro USB socket is exposed and there is a nano-coating to protect it from water and dust. Apart from the Leaf branding mic for calls, it has a notification LED for charge indication.  The cable is flat and it does not tangle. The length of the cable can be adjusted with a knot grip provide.

Performance

Performance is as important as the design.  It has 2 earpieces with 2mW output and an impedance of 32 oHm. It has an operating frequency of 20Hz to 20kHz. The quality of sound is commendable. It has deep lows. There is not much of sound staging. But the lows, mids, and highs have good separation. It has good noise canceling but still lets you listen to the surroundings and be aware of it. It is very important, especially if you are an urban runner. The voice clarity for music and network calls are also surprisingly good for this price range.

Bluetooth connectivity is a simple process and it has a decent range of about 10 meters. It has a 75 mAh battery. I get over 7 hours of battery life if used continuously. It takes about 1:30 hours to get charged fully.

Verdict

So the Leaf Ear satisfies all of the 8 points in my requirements list.
