Lava mobiles ‘Design in India’ challenge winner to get 90000 rupee prize
Lava mobiles, one of the very few Indian smartphone brands has started ‘Design in India’ challenge. Back in May, Lava announced that they are moving all of their manufacturing to India from China in 6 months time. Taking this ‘Vocal for Local’ more seriously, Lava is now running contest to encourage youth to utilize their creative skills and bring fresh design methods. Top three winners will additionally receive a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 15,000 respectively. The winners will also get pre-placement interview opportunity at Lava.
Given the circumstances and given lack of innovation from Indian branch in smartphone industry, this move from Lava should be appreciated. We do hope that brands like Lava bring ‘Designed in India, Designed by Indians, Made in India’ devices to the market.
“Our country stands at a very important juncture right now. We envision India to be the next global manufacturing hub. We have the potential to be self-reliant too. Through this unique initiative, we want to give the youth of our country a platform to play their part in this nation building process. We invite them to use their creative skills and bring fresh perspectives to our design methods.”, said, Tejinder Singh, Head- Product, Lava International.
Do note that this contest is open for B.Tech/B.E/B. Des/M.Des students/professionals. Students and professionals from Engineering (ECE/IT/CS/Mech/Industrial Design) departments can participate in this contest in groups of 1-3 members and win a chance to work for Lava’s Design-in-India team. The contest will be run in three phases (Ideation, prototype design, presentation to jury). Participants will be mentored by Lava’s design team.
