Infinix S4 – 4 GB / 64 GB variant – Review
Infinix S4, just got a major hardware update. The mobile which was available in 3 GB / 32 GB variant is now available for 4 GB / 64 GB, but at the same price of Rs 8999. More RAM and double the storage capacity for the same price is a good deal for anyone looking to buy a mobile under Rs 10k. But is it worth the price tag? Let us dive in and check it out.
Design – Infinix S4
Infinix S4 does not look like a cheap device. It has a glossy gradient back. My review unit is Nebula blue which has a starry finish to it. It is also available in Grey and Purple. The mobile is made of plastic at the back and the shiny back is prone to scratches over time. There is a good quality case included in the box and I would recommend to have it on the device always. The display comes with a protection film applied. It has a teardrop notch, for those who want a notched display in this price segment. The SIM card tray supports dual SIM card and SD card for memory expansion. The device feels good in the hand. Infinix S4 is comfortable to hold and handle.
The fingerprint sensor is at the back. It is fast and accurate. The face unlock is not as fast as other mobiles we have seen in this price segment, but it works under most light conditions. The mono speakers are loud. Sound out of the 3.5 mm jack is of decent quality.
Display
Just like the 3 GB variant, the 4 GB variant also has a 6.21-inch HD+ panel. With the notch and full-screen display, we get about 19.5:9 aspect ration. The display output is crisp and clear. It is visible even under direct sunlight. It has night mode and eye protection features under display settings.
Infinix S4 Camera
Infinix S4 has triple camera setup at the back. The 13 MP camera has an f/1.8 aperture and an 8 MP wide-angle camera. The 2 MP is a depth sensor. The front camera is a 32 MP camera setup with f/2.0 aperture. A similar setup from Vivo or Oppo mobile would cost you Rs 20k. But Infinix S4 is available for Rs 8999. Considering the price of this mobile, UI offers a lot of features. It has a lot of modes such as Beauty, Bokeh, Video, and AR Shot. Under good light, the camera can click sharp detailed images. It has a good portrait mode for this price. The blur level can also be adjusted with the portrait shots. Low light performance is not impressive. The wide-angle shots have distortion and softness towards the edges of the images. It shoots 1080p videos but does not have any kind of stabilization. Overall, I am impressed with the cameras in Infinix S4, owing to the price to performance ratio.
Software
Infinix S4 runs on Android 9 with XOS skinned on top. Though the UI offers a bunch of useful features and customization options, it comes with a few pre-loaded apps like PHX browser and Danger Dash games. I recommend to uninstall both these apps and go for a better browser like Chrome or Firefox. It also has full-screen gestures and option to hide the notch.
Performance
The 4 GB variant is also powered by MediaTek Helio P22 processor. This is a popular processor among mobiles in this price segment. But the key highlight is the 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage. The increased RAM gives better multi-tasking power to the mobile. Also, the mobile feels snappy to use. 64 GB is good enough for most of the consumers in this target group and for those who need additional memory, S4 offers SD card support as well. Infinix S4 has Bluetooth 5, Wi-Fi, dual 4G VoLTE, and GPS.
You can play PUBG but at low graphics settings. Though you can find the 3 GB variant for Rs 7999 during sale days on Flipkart, I would highly recommend going for the 4 GB variant for Rs 8999.
Battery
Infinix S4 runs on a 4000 mAh battery. The box has a 10W generic charger, which takes about 2 hours to charge the mobile. Once charged the mobile can last for a day and half of moderate usage. It can give you a screen on time of over 7 hours owing to the HD+ display and low powered processor.
Verdict
Under 10k mobile segment is a vicious shark tank. Redmi and Realme are trained killers in this segment. Realme C2, 3i, and Redmi 7 market leaders right now. But Infinix, backed by Transsion holdings is not less of a shark. They have a good presence both offline and online. But they lack the fan base or community like the other Chinese players. Infinix S4 comes with a fingerprint sensor, full view notched display, triple camera, and 4/64 memory configuration. The only weakness is the P22 processor which is not the most powerful in this price segment. But if you are looking for a mobile to handle day-to-day tasks, apps and games at a budget, Infinix S4 can be a good choice. The mobile is completely made in India and follows all the BIS standards, SAR regulations and safety standards regulated by the Indian government.
