HTC One M7 won’t get Android 5.1 update
Google released an update to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop a few days back. Versioned at 5.1, this update brought several important performance fixes, the most important of them all being the memory leak fix. The update is currently being rolled out to many Nexus devices. However, HTC has decided that it won’t roll out this update to the original HTC One M7.
This is not a rumour, which means there is literally no hope that this will be overturned. HTC’s VP of Product Management, Mo Versi, announced this on Twitter. While the Android 5.1 Lollipop update doesn’t bring a lot to the table, the performance improvements that it brings compared to Android 5.0 are very tangible.
As of now, the One M7 is 2 years and 10 days old. According to HTC, the company promised to update its devices for at least two years. Ditching the One M7 like a hot potato after just crossing the two year limit seems a bit too crappy, considering the fact that the 5.1 update is not a big update at all.
