HTC brings ads to BlinkFeed with an update
HTC is bringing ads to its BlinkFeed launcher. In a blog post announcement today, the Taiwanese giant announced that native ads will be pushed out in a phased manner to users residing in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Taiwan, and China. The company also released details about the ads and how they will appear in the BlinkFeed launcher.
AdNetworks partners such as Yahoo, Twitter and Appia will be pushing out ads to your BlinkFeed in a limited number. HTC will include its own devices or accessories ads as well. These are all native ads – you will not find any popups or banners. Instead, you will see them as a regular BlinkFeed item, albeit with a Sponsored tag to help you identify it as an ad.
If you don’t want ads, you will be given an option to disable them. While this is okay, the fact that a phone manufacturer as big as HTC is bringing ads to its devices is a bit of a bad-taste-in-the-mouth sort of news. It is still being tested as a pilot, but this is not good news for HTC fans.
