HTC and Verizon announce Droid DNA phablet with 1080p display
We are going to be brutally honest here so if you are thinking of us jumping in joy over this announcement, you will be disappointed! 5″ 1080p display with IPS panel (Super LCD 3), wireless charging, breathtaking looks and build quality, highly reliable Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network, screaming Qualcomm 1.5 Ghz Snapdragon S4 Pro chip, Android 4.1 jellybean. Everything felt amazing till we saw the battery specification. 1080p display, 4G LTE and a quad core chip are extremely power hungry and not to forget Android’s inability to give good battery life. This is the reason why Samsung packed a 3100mAh with Note 2 even though it had a Super AMOLED display panel. Droid DNA comes with a 2020mAh which may not keep the phone on till you head back from office. Packing extremely poor batteries was one of the main causes that led to the downfall of HTC and looks like they have not learnt from their mistakes. Lets talk about the positives now. Even though the phone comes with a 5″ display, those who used or liked One X or One X+ will feel home with this phone. It has roughly the same width and the increase in size is in length. Also, thanks to the incredible thin and solid form factor, one may not be bit by the size. The 1080p S-LCD3 unit of the phone is the crown jewel. When we tried One X, the display and the bling of SenseUI made our jaws to drop. The panel on Droid DNA seems to take the display to the next level and with 440ppi density, iPhone’s retina display will feel outdated. Build quality seem to be top notch and this one is a definite head turner with the elegant curves and the red strips on either side of the phone. The powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro running at 1.5GHz is more than enough to keep Android running without any lag whatsoever and there is 2GB of RAM for the OS/apps to make use of. There is 16GB of onboard memory and there is no possibility of memory expansion. Verizon will start shipping this phone on 21st of November for $199 on a contract. Below is the first look video of the phone posted by HTC on their official Youtube page. If you are thinking of buying this phone, please do wait for early adopters to give their opinion on the battery life. The last thing you want is another Evo in your hands!
