HP announce global battery recall for select laptop models
HP has announced a worldwide battery recall and replacement program for certain HP, Compaq, HP ProBook, HP ENVY, Compaq Presario, and HP Pavilion Notebook Computers that were sold from the month of March 2013 till August 2015 across the globe. This also includes batteries that are sold as accessories, spares, provided as replacements through Support.
The recall is to avoid fire/burn hazard and to cease usage of affected batteries asap. HP recommends that if your notebook is one of those effected, you should use the computer without the battery installed, by connecting directly to external power.
Note: Not all batteries in all HP, Compaq, HP ProBook, HP ENVY, Compaq Presario, and HP Pavilion Notebook Computers are affected.
Download the HP Battery Program Validation Utility (link at the bottom of this post) and run the utility to check if your notebook is affected. You can also Validate Manually using the guide mentioned in the link.
