Google updates Chromebook Pixel with faster chipset and USB Type C connector
Google has announced a rather interesting upgrade to Chromebook PIxel, the premium ChromeOS notebook that is built in-house. The new Pixel is a little bit cheaper and is the first non-macbook laptop to come with the new USB Type-C port (recently seen on the new 2015 Apple Macbook). Google is also working on bringing more Android devices with built-in Type C connector. With USB Type-C connector, you can use the same charging cable for various form factors (compatible notebook, tablet, smartphone etc). Unlike the new Macbook, the new Chromebook Pixel has two Type-C connectors, one on each side. The Chromebook Pixel is available for purchase starting today in the U.S. on the new Google Store for $999 and $1299 for the LS version. For a device that comes with an OS with extremely limited functionality, the price, even after 200$ cut, feels overpriced. It is time Google does a dual boot setup for the Pixel.
Imagine this! A charger that comes with built-in SSD. As Type-C can enable multi-device charging and allow high-speed data and display over same connector/cable, we can now save atleast a cable and space on precious desk.
Other specification include Intel® Core™ i5, 8GB RAM, 32GB SSD, 12 hours of battery life. With just 15 minutes of charging, you can get 2 hours of battery life. A faster LS version is also available for purchase from Google Store.
