Google has just released a brand new app called Trusted Contacts. This new app lets you share you location with a set of “trusted contacts” in case of emergency and for personal safety. The app is available for Android devices in the Play Store. Google says the iOS version of the app is coming soon.

The idea of the Trusted Contacts app is very simple – it lets you share your location with your trusted contacts whenever you want to. Additionally, your trusted contacts can also request your location when they need to. You can choose to share your location or decline the request, of course.
Apart from that, Trusted Contacts app will also let your near and dear ones listed in the app to know the following:
See if you were recently active – Just in case you do not respond to calls or texts, your trusted contacts will know if you were recently online if you have moved or used the device.
Request your location – Your trusted contacts can request your location. You get the option to share or deny. If there’s no response for 5 minutes, your last known location will be shared.
Share location for a specified period of time – In addition to merely sharing your current location, you can share your location for a specified period of time. This can be useful if you are in a risky neighbourhood or are generally feeling unsafe.
The Google Trusted Contacts app is live in the Google Play store. It is available for free for all Android devices running on Android 4.1 or above.
